Teething

For the past month or so Jasper has been teething on and off. He's especially unhappy at night before bedtime. On really bad nights we take turns holding him and walking around. Peekaboo Training

Matt and I have been doing intensive peekaboo training with Jasper. Here are some photos of the process.

I can grab my toes

Where does the time go? Jasper and I have been having a great time hanging out. He's getting really good at 'tummy time' and drooling. I taught him how to grab his toes while I change him (he now seems to think he's supposed to grab his toes while I change him, but it doesn't help the process much). He particularly likes to hold onto his left big toe. Halloween was excellent too. He dressed up in his organic cotton pumpkin costume (thanks Martha!). We went to 'Movies for Mommies' with 80 other mom's and babies and watched 'Ghost Town'. It was pretty cute. The best part was seeing all the cute babies dressed up and hanging out with my new mommy friends. Stay tuned for pictures of Jasper in his Jolly Jumper.

Rewind

When we went to the hospital by taxi on July 28 we didn't bring the bags I so carefully packed. We didn't know we'd stay until we had our baby. Thankfully our doula was able to bring some music (we had been listening to the familiar sounds of CBC radio, but with a lot of static). She also brought a camera. Here are those first photos of Jasper and our new family.

The baby in the mirror

This morning I showed Jasper his image in the mirror, which we've done many times. For some reason Jasper thought this was really funny and he laughed and laughed.

Le Camera

This year I participated in a small business program that offered grant money to its participants. I saved $600 and they gave me three times that much for a total of $2400 to spend on my business. My first purchase was a NIKON camera with a macro lens. I love it. Here are a couple of pictures I took today.

He babbles

This last week Jasper has changed so much. He babbles all the time making lovely sounds and looking at us with intent - like we should know what he's saying. Along with the talking he smiles and laughs a lot. He especially likes it when we stick out our tongues and he joins in too. He's a big boy now 23 inches and 13 pounds. He'll move on from his bassinet to his crib by tomorrow night!

New friends

Here is Jasper with his new friend, a beautiful bunny crocheted by my friend Jen. What should we name him?

Update!

Jasper is changing so much these days. He likes to grab onto things like our shirts and my hair and he wraps his little arms around us when we hold him. When he wakes up in the morning he stretches and rubs his face and gives us the best smiles. It just melts us. He also does a fair amount of laughing in his sleep, which is hilarious and adorable.

This week we went to our last appointment with the birth program. At 6 weeks Japer's now 12 pounds and 22.5 inches. I was proud too because the doctor who delivered him said once again how impressed she was with me in labour.

I also wanted to mention that in the early weeks if Jasper was fussing Matt would say hopefully "Do you think he wants to be held?" Needless to say Matt likes to hold him any chance he gets and for as long as possible.

* I don't know how it happened but Jasper's nickname is "Bubba." Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the name, oh dear.

The Bear

Jasper's cousins Hagen, Ella and Clio returned from their summer in Europe with this gorgeous bear made in Germany. I think he likes it!

Go Bucks!

On Jasper's first day of College Football he was really excited about Ohio State's win, but got upset when he heard Beanie Wells hurt himself.

One month old

I can't believe Jasper is already a month old. We have lots of fun these days. I read him stories, which he's surprisingly interested in. He also enjoys his baths. Here are a couple of pictures of him after his bath today.

Weeds don't grow this fast

So Jasper is now 10 lbs 8 ounces! He is hungry all the time and is awfully fussy until he gets his fill. Now that he's bigger he also sleeps for longer stretches in the night. Last night he slept for 7 hours straight - even through a diaper change.

Jasper's getting bigger. Some of his little onesies are already to small. Here's a picture of him playing with his toys today.

Our little guy, Jasper DesBarres March, was born July 29 at 10.00 am. He was 13 days late and weighed in at 7 lbs 11 ounces. He's now over 3 weeks old and weighs 9 lbs 4 ounces. Here are some pictures from the first few days.
